Hai Cenato is a New York-Italian style restaurant which has been set up by Jason Atherton, his wife Irha and Paul Hood. The pizzas are every bit as excellent as you’d expect from Michelin star chefs but even so, this is a really affordable pizza restaurant.
And whilst it’s good-looking enough for a treat date-night, it’s also great for a post-work get-together with friends. Personally, I think the area is a little odd. It’s in the very glassy and corporate-feeling Nova atrium in Victoria so there’s very little atmosphere on the walk from the station.
Don’t let that put you off though. Once through the door, you’re instantly transported into a warm and buzzy industrial-chic space where the blazing and bulbous stone ovens are the first thing to greet you.
There’s a too-hard-to-choose-from pizza menu, an accessibly reasonable wine menu with helpful but not too pushy sommeliers. One of my favourite features is how every month, a guest chef creates an exclusive special. When I went the first time back in April, I had this ridiculously indulgent carbonara pizza by Peter Sanchez-Iglesias of Casamia in Bristol. Yep, that’s an egg-yolk drizzle on a carbonara white base with crispy porchetta. Sensational.
I’m yet to explore the cocktail bar upstairs so I’ll simply have to go back… Tough times 😉
Have you been to Hai Cenato, or any other excellent London pizza restaurants?
